Dave Bones, S.E. Shires Q-Series Artist

Dave comes from New England and studied for three years at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. While residing in the Boston area, Dave performed for many events including at the Hatch Schell, and Vermont Reggae Festival. He enjoyed playing world music with The Mighty Charge Reggae Band, opening for The Wailers; and, Ibrahim Camara at Harvard University. At Berklee he performed and recorded student projects with Bob Freedman, Richard Evans, Gerald Wilson, Rupert Holmes, and Wolfgang Muthspiel. As well, Dave later performed on cruise ships with artists as Fifth Dimension, The Platters, Buddy Greco, Maureen McGovern, and Bill Cunliffe. In addition, he toured with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra lead by Buddy Morrow.
Dave now resides in Portland, Oregon. He has performed with artists near Portland, OR including Hank Hirsh, Gaea Shell, Bobby Bradford, Bob Hernandez, Cleve Williams, Carlton Jackson Big Band, Kansas City Rhythm Kings, Body and Soul, Palante, Conjunto Allegre, La Mayor Salsa Band, and others.
Teachers that have been particularly impacting in Dave’s study are Alan Raph (world-renowned trombonist and author), Tad Weed (pianist, Carmen McRae & many others); Dante Luciani (UM); Phil Wilson (Berklee), and Michael Dease (MSU). Dave feels that the learning process never stops, and continues to fuel his passion through independent study with Mike Kris (instructor at UNC, and in-demand free-lance trombonist.)
He is very passionate regarding education and presentation, and is combining his background in music with public speaking and communication training in Toastmasters. Currently, Dave’s main focus is on his private lessons studio, as well as low brass and jazz clinics throughout the school year.
